PENSIERI D'AUTUNNO/ AUTUMN THOUGHTS

Gli alberi hanno avuto il colore dell'autunno, in questi giorni.
Le prime foglie, cadute sotto il peso delle lunghe piogge erano solo brune...
ora hanno preso i colori dell'oro e qualche rosso che incanta.

La mia vita sta subendo un ulteriore cambiamento.
A  fine marzo 2013, mia figlia e la sua famiglia si sono trasferiti da Ginevra a Varsavia.
Ginevra è abbastanza vicina a dove io abito...tre ore e mezzo di guida, eravamo là...come Valentina Pawel e le bambine, potevano arrivare qui.
Varsavia invece richiede l'aereo...non è un viaggio lunghissimo, ma l'aereo non è mai come prendere la propria automobile e partire...
Qualcosa, da allora, è cambiato.
Quando succede qualcosa di imprevisto in famiglia, non c'è facilità di supporto reciproco, in tempi brevi...Adesso qualcosa cambia ancora.

Valentina, con Pawel, Beatrice ed Alice si trasferisce ad Houston in Texas.
Una bella opportunità di carriera per Pawel, un mondo nuovo per le bambine...
Ma tutto è affidato a Skype.
Per il resto la vita di tutti i giorni è sempre più estranea dal mondo in cui stiamo vivendo.
L'affetto diventa un sentimento disincarnato e sentito solo attraverso la mente.
Mi fanno tenerezza le bambine che quando sono qui con noi cercano la fisicità, l'abbraccio, che dentro skype non c'è.
"Skype non è vero"ha dichiarato Bea un anno fa quasi gridando la sua rabbia.
Skype è un dolce inganno che facilita la vita...
Non è vero e non è falso..Skype è un supporto per il cuore ed il cervello, insieme alla mia dose di pittura giornaliera.

I giorni della vita, quei giorni che sono già tutti contati, non prevedono che noi vediamo crescere da vicino le nostre nipotine, non prevedono che nostra figlia sia vicino a noi.
Quei giorni prevedono che ci facciamo coraggio, accettando la situazione con buon garbo,
sorridendo per non cedere alla malinconia, se non per il tempo necessario ad elaborare il cambiamento.
Siamo in due, Danilo ed io,  a camminare nei soliti luoghi, a guardare le foglie che diventano oro e rosso. E' la nostra stagione che inclina verso l'inverno.
Ognuno vive la sua lontananza come può.
Beatrice la sera prima di partire mi dice "Nonna, domani andiamo al parco giochi".
Il cuore non conosce distanze, il desiderio di adattarsi alle situazioni senza perdere la gioia della vita è sempre la scelta migliore, così i pensieri positivi dovranno coprire una distanza oceanica, questa volta.

My life is undergoing further change.
At the end of March 2013 my daughter and her family moved from Geneva to Warsaw.
Geneva is pretty close to where I live ... three and half hours of driving, we were there ... as the others could get here. Warsaw instead requires the plane ... it's not  a long travel, but the plane was never like taking your car and leave ...Something has changed. When something happens there is not  ease of mutual support in the near future ... Now something changes again.

Uno schizzo del 2001. Quando ho dipinto questo ,nella casa di Sauze d'Oulx, i medici parlavano di 5 anni di sopravvivenza. La frutta, le rose e la chitarra di Danilo appesa al muro, la neve fuori e niente di quello che c'è oggi esisteva... mi fa bene guardare al tempo che è trascorso prima di affrontare i cambiamenti.

So all is entrusted to Skype. Life every day is  denied in  the world in which we are  living.
Love becomes a disembodied feeling and heard only through the mind.
They was very tender my little  girlrs, here with us, looking for the physical contact that is not in Skype.
"Skype is not true" said Bea a year ago, almost shouting her  anger.
Skype is a sweet trick that makes our life easier ...
is not true and it is  not false.
Skype is a support for the heart and brain, along with my  love of  watercolors painting.

In these days of our lives , days already counted, we cannot expect to see our grandchildren grow up close, or that our daughter is close to us.
Those days require that we take courage, accepting the situation with good grace,
smiling to not give in to sadness , just enough time to get used to the change.
We are two, Danilo and me, walking in the usual places to watch the leaves turn gold and red...our season that tilts the winter.
Everyone lives a distance as he can.  Beatrice the night before leave, said, "Grandma, tomorrow we go to the playground."
The heart doesn't know distance.
Facing different situations without losing the joy of life is always is the better choice, so, positive thoughts will have to cover a oceanic distance, this time.

ANEMONI / WIND FLOWERS

Gli anemoni sono trai miei fiori preferiti per la personalità di ciascun fiore.

Nessuna corolla è mai simile ad un'altra e questo carattere del fiore mi stupisce sempre.

Ho fotografato questi fiori in modi diversi, con la luce dall'alto, controluce ed anche con una fonte unica a 45 gradi, per ottenere una certa drammaticità.

Guardando una di queste immagini, ho dipinto uno studio partendo dai fili d'acqua, senza disegnare.

Quando i primi fili d'acqua sembrano giusti, inserendo il colore inizia una pittura spontanea che 

prosegue alla prima tutta di seguito.

Così ieri, nel pomeriggio, ho finito gli anemoni.

Guardando stamattina ho notato che mancavano di qualcosa ed ho cercato di migliorare i valori tonali.

ALLA PRIMA 

Osservando meglio, ho deciso di  tonalizzare il bianco carta (molto bianco) con qualcosa di neutro, che collocasse meglio i due fiori nello spazio.

Questo studio mi ha reso felice per la spontaneità del lavoro alla prima, che stamani con poche pennellate scure  ha  acquistato tridimensionalità.

The anemones are among my favorite flowers for the personality of each flower.
No flower is similar to another, so each flower always amazes me.
I have  many pictures of these flowers in some different ways, with light from above, backlight, and with a single source at 45 degrees, to obtain drama and values.
Looking at one of these my own images, I painted a study, starting from threads of water, without drawing.
I drew the flowers with water without color and then I started to add color and painting in a gestural way,"alla Prima".
So yesterday afternoon, I started and finished anemones.

Watching this morning I noticed that something was missing and tried to improve the tonal values​​.
Taking a closer look I decided to toning the white (too white) of  paper with something neutral that would place better  two flowers in space.
This study made ​​me happy for the spontaneity of the work ...this morning ,after few dark  brushstrokes,  in a little time,  it seems to have a better three-dimensionality.

IKEA STILL LIFE

Ci sono oggetti semplici le cui forme sono incantevoli.
Uno di questo oggetti bellissimi per me, è l'annaffiatoio VALLO di IKEA.
I fiori messi in questi semplici contenitori, assumono grazia con facilità e sono pronti in un attimo per essere ammirati.

Credo che il progettista di questo oggetto sia stato geniale.
I tulipani, in particolare, trovano facilmente una buona postura nel contenitore. Così, dipingere dalle mie foto spesso vuol dire dipingere, in  qualche modo, anche  il contenitore Ikea.

Come accade a me ma anche ad altri acquerellisti, alcuni lavori nascono in tempi anche molto distanti tra una sessione e l'altra.

In  Agosto  avevo iniziato il dipinto con nuance rosa e blu (varianti di colore più calde e più fredde) e poi avevo lasciato il progetto...
Volevo riuscire a scurire molto il fondo come nella fotografia, ma poi non riuscivo a immaginare come ottenere il risultato, in modo che non fosse piatto.
In questi casi lascio andare tutto...l'esperienza mi dice che non è il momento di fare, quando non sono sicura di quello che sento.

I tulipani nel contenitore rosa dell'Ikea, sono stati portati a termine con un valzer di colori accesi  e pennellate energiche (tenendo d'occhio i valori tonali). Il disegno che pure c'era, è ben presto svanito nelle lavature e nelle nebulizzazioni. La carta Arches grain torchon non è la prima scelta per tecniche umide, ma riesce a mantenere numerose lavature in modo tale che sembrano vellutate ... un effetto più visibile dal vero che da computer.

There are simple objects whose shapes are lovely.
One of these beautiful objects for me, is "VALLO",  an IKEA watering can.
Flowers placed in these simple containers, with ease and grace are immediately ready to be admired.
I think the designer of this item has been brilliant.
The tulips, in particular easily take a good posture.
So for me to paint the flowers from my photos often means paint, in some way, even the Ikea container.

As happens to me (but also other watercolorists), some works are born in times very distant from one session to another.
In August I started the painting with shades of pink and blue (warm and cool) and then I left the project ...
I wanted to be able to darken the background as much in the picture, but then I could not figure out how to get the result, in a way that was not flat.
In these cases, I let it all go ... experience tells me that it is not the time to do, when I'm not sure what I feel.

Tulips are painted with a waltz of bright colors and bold brush strokes (keeping an eye on the tonal values​​). The initial drawing, it soon vanished in the washing and spray mist.
Arches paper grain torchon, is not my first choice for wet techniques, but is able to maintain so many washes in a velvety way ... a more visible effect from true than on computer screen.

MEDIUMS COCKTAIL

Il clima è cambiato improvvisamente ...il grigio ora domina le giornate e fa desiderare la luce ed i colori vibranti.

Per fortuna, nello studio ho tanti  arcobaleni, sempre pronti... acquerelli, pastelli, gouache e pennarelli ed è divertente combinare insieme le tecniche. Giocando si impara, dice un proverbio italiano.

Come supporto  ho scelto  il cartone pesante , quasi sempre grigio, che sta dietro i blocchi per acquerello, quando sono finiti,  reciclato per creare superfici sperimentali mescolando al gesso acrilico una pomice con particelle micacee.

Un vaso con dei fiori ottenuti dai colori primari, nel libro di Jean Carbonetti, ha ispirato il mio schizzo veloce su cui ho dipinto a segni e macchie, con diversi mezzi in totale libertà.

Volevo sperimentare la combinazione di markers, acquerello, gouache e pastello e farlo in tempi brevi, come un gioco piacevole. 

La creatività sguinzagliata è un ottimo antidoto per i giorni grigi ... ho usato pastelli Conté e Rembrandt, per ammorbidire le linee dure dei markers ...e un po' di vodka bianca per fondere il pastello e l'acquerello insieme.

Ho sempre ammirato molto le composizioni floreali dipinte a pastello da Odilon Redon, così colorate e luminose e questo studio, tra Jeanne Carbonetti, Odilon Redon e il mio cocktail di medium è stato molto utile per imparare le reazioni dei materiali combinati e le future possibilità creative.

Playtime

Ho scoperto che il pastello permette quei piccoli pentimenti e quelle mutazioni che mi lasciano più libera durante l'azione creativa, favorendo quella certa temerarietà che fa parte del mio modo di usare i colori .

Now  the weather changed suddenly ... the gray dominates the days and I wish the light and vibrant colors.
In my  studio  there are plenty of rainbows available ...  watercolors, pastels,  markers and gouache.

I like to re-use the heavy cardboard (usually gray) that remains after I finished the blocks of watercolor paper, creating experimental surfaces.
This summer I tried to paint gray cardboard mixing gesso and pumice, with micaceous particles, so now is time to experiment.
A vase with flowers obtained from the primary colors in my  book from Jean Carbonetti, inspired my quick sketch which I then painted freely marks and spots, with gouache and some transparent watercolor.
I loved the combination of watercolor, gouache and pastel, doing it quickly, like a nice play.
The creativity unleashed is a great antidote to gray days ... I used Conté pastels and Rembrandt to soften the hard lines of the markers ...  a bit of  white vodka to melt pastel and watercolor together.
I have always greatly admired the floral pastel-painted by Odilon Redon, so rich in colorful and bright, so this study, between Jeanne Carbonetti, Odilon Redon and my cocktail of  various mediums was very useful to learn the reactions of combined materials, looking for future creative possibilities.

 Watercolors (or watermedia) combined with  pastels allow those little regrets and those mutations that leave  me more free during the creative action, favoring some temerity of my way to use colors.

WATERCOLOR HAPPENING

Gli acquerelli vivono di vita propria.
Questa volta avevo iniziato un progetto con molto cura, sapendo di dovere lasciare ferme le cose per una decina di giorni.
Sembrava tutto così ben organizzato...test di colore, i colori messi insieme in una scatola e qualche cosa di già dipinto per dire a me stessa "voglio fare così".
Quando ho ripreso il foglio in mano ho iniziato a fare grandi lavature di verde veronese con qualche tocco di giallo , il disegno è scomparso del tutto ed è iniziata una storia tutta diversa.
Ho proseguito con  verde veronese, verde di prussia e blu di manganese ...ho creato una impressione di  foglie dove prima le foglie erano disegnate con cura.

Giorno dopo giorno l'uva si è trasformata.  Lavature bagnate ,velature asciutte...l'uva ha  preso la pioggia, il verderame dei disinfettanti, il sole del giorno ed il buio della notte.
Non ero più io che dicevo all'uva come doveva essere, sembrava che fosse l'uva a dire a me come doveva essere.
Gli acquerelli accadono, qualche volta...poi ci sarà tempo di riprendere il soggetto  in modo più calmoe metodico ...ma io amo  proprio queste ore  di lavoro appassionato dove le cose diventano sempre  altro sotto le mie mani e sotto i miei occhi, rivelandosi in modo inaspettato.

The watercolors have a life of their own.
This time I started a project with a lot of care, knowing I having to leave things for about ten days.
It all seemed so well organized ... test color, the colors put together in a box and something already painted to say to myself "I want to do so."
When I picked up the paper in hand I started doing large washes of Veronese green with a touch of yellow, the drawing  has disappeared  and  a different story began.
I went with  Veronese and Prussian green,  manganese blue  ... I have created only  an impression of leaves where they were at first drawn with care.

Day after day, the grape has been transformed.
Layering wet washes , dry glazes ... the grapes took the rain, the copper sulphate of disinfectants, the sun of day and the dark of night.
It seemed that it was the grapes to tell me how it should be painted.
The watercolors happen sometimes ... then there will be time to return on other grapes  to work in a more serene way ... but I just love these hours of passionate work where things become different  under my hands and under my eyes, revealing  themselves in an unexpected way.

BLOG AS MIRROR / BLOG A SPECCHIO

Il blog è ora uno specchio della mia  vita. Contiene pitture quando dipingo, fotografìe quando  vado a spasso per le colline e qualche  souvenir delle mie giornate da nonna.
La vita  insieme a mia figlia ed alle bambine è stata gioiosa e dinamica.

Buon compleanno Danilo !!! Happy birthday Danilo !!!

Danilo ha festeggiato il suo compleanno in anticipo per evitare di farlo il giorno reale che corrispondeva alla partenza di Valentina Alice e Bea.
Siamo stati felici tra palloncini e bimbe canterine ....lo studio si è trasformato in sala giochi mentre
oggi sono tornati al loro posto colori e pennelli .
E' tempo di riprendere l'uva che avevo impostato su carta Arches, prima della visita.
Spero di finire in tempo per presentarla in un concorso che si tiene in una città vicina.

The blog is now a mirror of my life. It contains paintings when I paint, photographs when I go for a walk in the hills and some souvenirs of my days as a grandmother.
The life along with my daughter and the granddaughters  was joyful and dynamic.

We were happy between  balloons and girls who love to sing .... the studio was transformed into a games room while today have returned to their place paints and brushes.
It 's time to take the grapes, which I had started on Arches paper, the first days of September.
I hope to finish in time to present it in a competition that is held in a nearby town.

Questa estate ho deciso di dedicare una parte del mio lavoro a studiare come usare meglio l'accostamento di segni e macchie, dentro acquerelli dipinti in modo rilassato.
Usare il pennello trascinando il colore, è più comune in altre tecniche, ma nulla impedisce di adottare questo metodo, sia con  la tecnica del pennello "asciutto"(caricato con colore e poca acqua)  che con quello "bagnato"(caricato con colore più o meno diluito) su carta asciutta.

Così ho pensato di usare macchie e segni, no limits, per alcuni lavori di grande formato, caratterizzati da libertà espressiva. Questo grappolo di uva è il terzo lavoro della serie, iniziata con "Rendez vous", proseguita con "L'autoporto"... e con un altro lavoro di piccole dimensioni che ho pubblicato solo su facebook: "A passeggio"

Ho scelto una carta "sbagliata" per l'acquerello normale, un cartoncino con una trama evident e abbastanza pesante, Fabriano Murillo.
Questa presenza di trama verticale ha favorito la pennellata accostata e la macchiatura ( come svantaggio questa carta tende a rompersi, se non si lascia asciugare bene tra una azione di pittura e l'altra e qualche volta non sopporta tutta la mia energìa e fa dei "friccioli"...).
Alla fine l'acquerello su cartoncino Murillo ha  un aspetto mat , che  ha il suo charme, non opaco, ma vellutato.

La pratica è sempre la risposta a tutte le domande. La pratica dell'acquerello è  un allenamento come andare in palestra.

In questi ultimi mesi, attraverso facebook sono entrata in contatto con dei lettori che sono interessati a quelle parti del blog dedicate alla sperimentazione ed alla pratica.

Alcune amiche mi hanno scritto che il mio entusiasmo le ha portate ad avere il desiderio di riprendere a dipingere dopo aver abbandonato la pittura.
Sono così felice di queste parole !
Dipingere è una espressione di se stessi che apre le porte ad una vita più serena, un regalo che facciamo a noi stessi.

This summer, I decided to study how to make better use of the combination of marks and stains, in some watercolors painted in a relaxed way.
Using the brush, dragging the color is more common in other techniques but nothing prevents you to adopt this method, with "dry brush" or wet  brush on dry paper .

So, I thought of using stains and marks, no limits, for some work of spontaneous gestures and watercolor freedom. This grape cluster is the third work in the series that began with "Rendez vous", continued with "Parking Car" ... and with another small job that I posted only on facebook: "Dog Walking"

I chose a paper "wrong" for the normal watercolor, a cardboard  with a texture , quite heavy, Fabriano Murillo.
This presence of vertical texture encouraged the brush and approached staining (as a disadvantage this paper tends to break if you do not let it dry well, after each action painting).
At the end of the watercolor on cardboard Murillo has a matte appearance, which has its own charm, not opaque, but velvety.

The practice is always the answer to all questions. The practice of watercolor is a workout as going to the gym.

In recent months through facebook I came into contact with readers who are interested in those parts of the blog dedicated to experimentation and practice.

Di solito uso colori in tubo per il mio lavoro di pittura ma le scatole con i colori in godet o le tavolozze riempite da me, sono validi supporti per essere  sempre pronti alla pratica .
I use colors in tube for my paint job but the boxes with the colors in godet or palettes filled by me, are valid supports to be ever ready to practice.

Some friends have written to me that my enthusiasm has led them to have the desire to resume painting after leaving the painting.
I'm so glad these words !
Painting is an expression of ourselves, that opens the door to a more peaceful life, a gift we give ourselves.
