Dear Kim, thanks for your comments so full of enthusiasm.
EliminaThe liquid medium for "Airbrush" is produced by Liquitex, as well as the acrylic plaster panels on the basis that I have stretched canvas panels
Absorbent Ground is used, after the Plaster Acrylic Liquitex, in some thin layer several times to obtain a result soft pleasant to look at.
The primary colors that I used in the bunch are Cadmium Yellow Light, Quinacridone Red and Phthalo blue by Rembrandt, in tube. But do not worry too much about the brand of colors ... the important thing is the auxiliary products, then a good brand is not too different from the other to start practicing to mix three colors.
There are many variations for the three primaries, and they are all to be discovered to become sensitive to their own personal color choices!I wish you nice healthy days!
Interessantissimo leggere dei tuoi nuovi esperimenti! Buon lavoro, ciao ciao Maddalena.
EliminaI love your experiments, Rita! I also like to use a basic three colours: ultramarine blue, quin. pink, and a medium yellow. Most of my paintings have these three colours and sometimes a few more.
RispondiEliminaWhen I move the first steps in the new lands, as it is reassuring to rely on what I already know! Our three primary triads loved ones, with very little waste give us so many variants! Happy painting ,dear Judy!
EliminaAnother great lesson and hints. I love the variation of colors in your grapes and by only using three colors too. You have made the acrylic have the charm of the watercolor...love the look.
RispondiEliminaThanks, dear Julie!Seeing how unstable is the watercolor wash on canvas surface even well prepared using Golden Absorbent (or Aqua by Shmincke) for background,
Eliminamaybe, I think use of acrylic, but with methods watercolourist, is the only way to have on canvas or panel, a work that is similar to watercolor, but durable, made with materials produced to be used in this way.
Companies say watercolors can use on these ground and then polish with a final varnish, spray first, in second place with a brush ... but do not guarantee what will happen next .. Playing with color is a nice attitude, but is the time is right to think about the future of work that require much time and commitment from those who paint. I hope to find my painting way in a only technique each time (or watercolor or acrylic) without crossing these materials.
I have loved what I can paint with watercolor on Yes multi-media canvas. It is a very fine weave and the surface coating takes washes very well. I use more of a dry brush for some details. I also use some gum of Arabic in the wash which really helps.
EliminaThanks for taking the time to share your processes. It is so neat and clear.
Dear Julie, I know that in the market there are already prepared surfaces to paint with watercolors and multimedia, but they are not easily purchased in Italy and are also difficult European online market. If purchased in the U.S., customs duties are so high that a tube of color three-dollar bill becomes for me at the delivery thirty U.S. dollars ... So prepare surfaces "selfmade" becomes so important, accepting the consequences as they arise. On these primers selfmade the successive washes of watercolor tend to come out if not sealed with acrylic ...for now.
EliminaThanks for the info on Yes anyway!I look for that on Eu market online.
Yes, I can see the wet-in-wet effects in the grapes. Love to read about your experiments. The pills box is a cool idea. I sometimes use a plastic form for ice that has a lid.
RispondiEliminaI also use ,like you, a lot of things for a purpose different from which they are manufactured! It would be great to put in a post our strange things to improve the life of painting, all bloggers at the same time .... I wonder how many things we might discover!
EliminaAcrylic colors need airtight container such as drugs!
One question: What is the name of the liquid used for airbrush? Julie is right you have achieved the look of watercolor with acrylics.
RispondiEliminaI have a studio that looks like a warehouse of fine arts ... but trial and error I discovered...
RispondiEliminaLow viscosity acrylic Liquitex airbrush medium.
This watercolor effect is very increased by having prepared the canvas panel with
First: Liquitex acrylic plaster in two thin layers
Second: Absorbent ground from Golden, three or four thin coats, sanding lightly with fine-grit sandpaper.
EliminaOh Rita, your experiments are fascinating. As everyone says the idea for storing acrylics is a stroke of genius. I find acrylics very difficult to use, but I will buy a pill box for next time I try them. Oh and the grapes look delicious!
RispondiEliminaAcrylics seem can do everything, but require many products that help their processing ... this could not spoil the material is already good ... the secret is always small quantity and hermetic closing. Even the small jars of cosmetics or small jams are to be collected for pouring small amounts of acrylic plaster or other auxiliary liquid medium, without opening and closing continuously large containers and make a longer life and easier to all.
EliminaCiao Rita. Bellissima l'uva.
EliminaA beautiful study, Rita. It's hard to believe you used such a limited palette. Wonderful work on these grapes....
RispondiEliminaThe limited palette is always surprising! The funny thing is that you find out how different the result according to the color that you choose first! A pink mixed with a yellow is totally different from a yellow mixed with a rose ... the unequal proportions of each color give brilliant results while balanced (half and half, for example) are not so pleasant! I believe that in your art of pastel, a large amount of colors, from different shades, it is necessary. The boxes of pastel artists seem in themselves, already works of art, with all those pieces of pastel put neighbors in order of gradation .... I love it!
EliminaSuccessful, love the colors, shows control, not overworked and transparent - think this is getting close to,where you want to go. Got you mail and more to you later, thanks you and love coming to you, you so understand.
RispondiEliminaThanks, Nelvia dear! When you want something you have to fight for it!
EliminaNot is still very good but I'm coming to my point of practice to even get my acrylic!
Good to hear from you, always! See you soon!
Querida Rita: trabalho lindo e valoroso.
Maria
Dear Maria, thanks!
RispondiEliminaNow the temperatures are warm but normal for a summer in northern Italy and the night we sleep well, finally!
A wonderful time now for relax and plans for the future.
I also wish you wonderful summer days!
Warmly, Rita.
Hi Rita, a very interesting studio, i like the result, hugs!!
RispondiEliminaGrazie cara Mari! Vedremo cosa arriva in futuro...abbraccio,Rita.
EliminaAn interesting technique Rita and it does indeed look like watercolour! Happy creating! Hugs, Laura
RispondiEliminaThanks,Laura! Some experimentation is very funny way of life for painters....Hugs,Rita.
EliminaDear Rita:) More and more often you read that people about going to use only the three primary colors. It's possible to make all colors the primaries. I love to mix a lot of colors by myself but still use more colors than the three primary. The result on the liquefaction of acrylic is very successful. Your grapes are lovely. The colors as well as the compostition. I saw on your mixing board the purple/blue color, but not in the grapes. Was it for a special reason? You are on the right track! Enjoy your artistic excesses and experiments. Lots of love and a whole big hug:) xxx
RispondiEliminaThe colors you see were used but due to the liquid for airbrush (a transparent acrylic) meeting other colors have been lightened a lot.
EliminaTonight I wrote something about the primary colors. There are good reasons to use a few colors ... but also good reasons to use a lot of colors!
And every artist is unique as the only his palette!
Thank you for giving me the idea to make my new post! Warm hugs,Rita.
