WATERCOLOR HAPPENING

Gli acquerelli vivono di vita propria.
Questa volta avevo iniziato un progetto con molto cura, sapendo di dovere lasciare ferme le cose per una decina di giorni.
Sembrava tutto così ben organizzato...test di colore, i colori messi insieme in una scatola e qualche cosa di già dipinto per dire a me stessa "voglio fare così".
Quando ho ripreso il foglio in mano ho iniziato a fare grandi lavature di verde veronese con qualche tocco di giallo , il disegno è scomparso del tutto ed è iniziata una storia tutta diversa.
Ho proseguito con  verde veronese, verde di prussia e blu di manganese ...ho creato una impressione di  foglie dove prima le foglie erano disegnate con cura.

Giorno dopo giorno l'uva si è trasformata.  Lavature bagnate ,velature asciutte...l'uva ha  preso la pioggia, il verderame dei disinfettanti, il sole del giorno ed il buio della notte.
Non ero più io che dicevo all'uva come doveva essere, sembrava che fosse l'uva a dire a me come doveva essere.
Gli acquerelli accadono, qualche volta...poi ci sarà tempo di riprendere il soggetto  in modo più calmoe metodico ...ma io amo  proprio queste ore  di lavoro appassionato dove le cose diventano sempre  altro sotto le mie mani e sotto i miei occhi, rivelandosi in modo inaspettato.

The watercolors have a life of their own.
This time I started a project with a lot of care, knowing I having to leave things for about ten days.
It all seemed so well organized ... test color, the colors put together in a box and something already painted to say to myself "I want to do so."
When I picked up the paper in hand I started doing large washes of Veronese green with a touch of yellow, the drawing  has disappeared  and  a different story began.
I went with  Veronese and Prussian green,  manganese blue  ... I have created only  an impression of leaves where they were at first drawn with care.

Day after day, the grape has been transformed.
Layering wet washes , dry glazes ... the grapes took the rain, the copper sulphate of disinfectants, the sun of day and the dark of night.
It seemed that it was the grapes to tell me how it should be painted.
The watercolors happen sometimes ... then there will be time to return on other grapes  to work in a more serene way ... but I just love these hours of passionate work where things become different  under my hands and under my eyes, revealing  themselves in an unexpected way.

BLOG AS MIRROR / BLOG A SPECCHIO

Il blog è ora uno specchio della mia  vita. Contiene pitture quando dipingo, fotografìe quando  vado a spasso per le colline e qualche  souvenir delle mie giornate da nonna.
La vita  insieme a mia figlia ed alle bambine è stata gioiosa e dinamica.

Danilo ha festeggiato il suo compleanno in anticipo per evitare di farlo il giorno reale che corrispondeva alla partenza di Valentina Alice e Bea.
Siamo stati felici tra palloncini e bimbe canterine ....lo studio si è trasformato in sala giochi mentre
oggi sono tornati al loro posto colori e pennelli .
E' tempo di riprendere l'uva che avevo impostato su carta Arches, prima della visita.
Spero di finire in tempo per presentarla in un concorso che si tiene in una città vicina.

The blog is now a mirror of my life. It contains paintings when I paint, photographs when I go for a walk in the hills and some souvenirs of my days as a grandmother.
The life along with my daughter and the granddaughters  was joyful and dynamic.
Danilo has celebrated his birthday in advance to avoid doing the true day that corresponded to the start of Valentina Alice and Bea.

We were happy between  balloons and girls who love to sing .... the studio was transformed into a games room while today have returned to their place paints and brushes.
It 's time to take the grapes, which I had started on Arches paper, the first days of September.
I hope to finish in time to present it in a competition that is held in a nearby town.

Questa estate ho deciso di dedicare una parte del mio lavoro a studiare come usare meglio l'accostamento di segni e macchie, dentro acquerelli dipinti in modo rilassato.
Usare il pennello trascinando il colore, è più comune in altre tecniche, ma nulla impedisce di adottare questo metodo, sia con  la tecnica del pennello "asciutto"(caricato con colore e poca acqua)  che con quello "bagnato"(caricato con colore più o meno diluito) su carta asciutta.

Così ho pensato di usare macchie e segni, no limits, per alcuni lavori di grande formato, caratterizzati da libertà espressiva. Questo grappolo di uva è il terzo lavoro della serie, iniziata con "Rendez vous", proseguita con "L'autoporto"... e con un altro lavoro di piccole dimensioni che ho pubblicato solo su facebook: "A passeggio"

Ho scelto una carta "sbagliata" per l'acquerello normale, un cartoncino con una trama evident e abbastanza pesante, Fabriano Murillo.
Questa presenza di trama verticale ha favorito la pennellata accostata e la macchiatura ( come svantaggio questa carta tende a rompersi, se non si lascia asciugare bene tra una azione di pittura e l'altra e qualche volta non sopporta tutta la mia energìa e fa dei "friccioli"...).
Alla fine l'acquerello su cartoncino Murillo ha  un aspetto mat , che  ha il suo charme, non opaco, ma vellutato.

La pratica è sempre la risposta a tutte le domande. La pratica dell'acquerello è  un allenamento come andare in palestra.

In questi ultimi mesi, attraverso facebook sono entrata in contatto con dei lettori che sono interessati a quelle parti del blog dedicate alla sperimentazione ed alla pratica.

Dipingere è una espressione di se stessi che apre le porte ad una vita più serena, un regalo che facciamo a noi stessi.

This summer, I decided to study how to make better use of the combination of marks and stains, in some watercolors painted in a relaxed way.
Using the brush, dragging the color is more common in other techniques but nothing prevents you to adopt this method, with "dry brush" or wet  brush on dry paper .

So, I thought of using stains and marks, no limits, for some work of spontaneous gestures and watercolor freedom. This grape cluster is the third work in the series that began with "Rendez vous", continued with "Parking Car" ... and with another small job that I posted only on facebook: "Dog Walking"

I chose a paper "wrong" for the normal watercolor, a cardboard  with a texture , quite heavy, Fabriano Murillo.
This presence of vertical texture encouraged the brush and approached staining (as a disadvantage this paper tends to break if you do not let it dry well, after each action painting).
At the end of the watercolor on cardboard Murillo has a matte appearance, which has its own charm, not opaque, but velvety.

The practice is always the answer to all questions. The practice of watercolor is a workout as going to the gym.

In recent months through facebook I came into contact with readers who are interested in those parts of the blog dedicated to experimentation and practice.
For these readers, as at the time I dedicated a page of the blog to "Watercolor Artists", now add the page "Watercolor Practice", with links to the posts of my practical experience.

Di solito uso colori in tubo per il mio lavoro di pittura ma le scatole con i colori in godet o le tavolozze riempite da me, sono validi supporti per essere  sempre pronti alla pratica .
I use colors in tube for my paint job but the boxes with the colors in godet or palettes filled by me, are valid supports to be ever ready to practice.

Some friends have written to me that my enthusiasm has led them to have the desire to resume painting after leaving the painting.
I'm so glad these words !
Painting is an expression of ourselves, that opens the door to a more peaceful life, a gift we give ourselves.

Il sole al tramonto, nelle giornate serene, sembra coprire il mondo di oro.
Ho visto i profili dei pennelli proiettati contro l'armadio bianco ed ho provato a fotografare.
Alla sera, dopo aver dipinto, il tramonto invade la stanza con la sua luce ed i pennelli sono lì, tutti dorati...amici veramente d'oro, compagni di vita.

Aspettavo l'arrivo delle mie ragazze questa settimana. Era la mattina di mercoledì, tutto era pronto ...ma una telefonata su skype mi ha avvisato di un cambio di programma.
Felicità rimandata ....di due settimane. Ho ripreso i pennelli con un poco di malinconìa.
Beatrice aveva messo la sua valigia davanti alla porta di casa per partire .... Mia nipote ha reagito con la decisione  di non disfare la valigia, in attesa di altri due mercoledì, che qualcuno ha assicurato che saranno....presto.
Io ho reagito, dipingendo da una foto dei miei pennelli al tramonto.

Verso sera sono andata sulle colline tra i vigneti, a fotografare l'uva, insieme a Danilo. Non volevo essere infelice...un disguido non è una cosa grave...Stiamo tutti bene, non è successo niente!
La natura, la bella giornata (un vero evento meraviglioso in una estate climaticamente avversa) mi hanno aiutato a superare la malinconìa.

Bruschi cambi di temperatura di una estate instabile hanno dato alle foglie colori straordinari che la luce del tramonto enfatizza.
Sudden changes in temperature in this summer unstable, gave stunning color to the leaves that the light of the sunset, emphasizes.

The setting sun, on clear days, seems to cover the world of gold.
I saw the profiles of brushes projected against the white closet and tried to photograph.
In the evening, after painting, the sunset fills the room with its light and the brushes are there, all gold ... gold really friends, companions in life.

I waited for the arrival of my girls this week. It was the morning of Wednesday, everything was ready ... but a phone call on skype alerted me to a change in plans.
Happiness .... postponed two weeks. I picked up the brush with a little melancholy.
Beatrice had put her suitcase in front of the door to leave .... My granddaugther has reacted with the decision not to unpack her suitcase, waiting for a next Wednesday that someone has assured that they will be .... soon.

I reacted, painting a watercolor from a photo of my brushes at sunset.
Towards evening I went on the hills among the vineyards, to photograph the grapes, along with Danilo. I did not want to be unhappy ... a mistake is not a serious thing ... We're all fine, nothing happened!
The nature, beautiful day (a real wonderful event in a summer climatically adverse) have helped me to overcome the sadness.

Un acquerello rapido, dipinto in negativo, senza disegno, con colori caldi . I pennelli sono sempre presenti e contribuiscono a rendere più serena la mia vita.
A quick watercolor , painting negative, without pencil , with warm colors.
 The brushes are ever present and help to make my life more peaceful.

THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF MY BLOG / TERZO COMPLEANNO DEL MIO BLOG

Il 24 agosto del 2011 ho pubblicato il primo post del mio blog.
E' iniziata così una piacevole avventura che mi ha portato in contatto con tanti amici e regalato tanti momenti di gioia, condividendo la passione per  la pittura e per la vita.
Scrivere il mio blog e leggere i vostri blog è diventato una parte importante delle mie giornate.

OUR YESTERDAY / IL NOSTRO IERI

Il nostro ieri è contenuto in molte scatole di diapositive, che scansire correttamente diventa sempre più impegnativo a causa del progressivo deterioramento delle immagini.
Si sono deteriorate le diapositive dei luoghi e per fortuna sono più conservate quelle delle persone.
Speriamo di riuscire a mostrare a Beatrice e ad Alice, qualcosa del nostro ieri.
Ho una foto di Valentina che tiene in braccio il suo bambolotto...
Questo bambolotto appartiene ad una serie multietnica ed è la prima bambola che Valentina ha scelto di sua iniziativa...

Un "Cicciobello" cinese. Le facce dei Cicciobello a parte il colore erano tutte molto simili, ma questo, per meritare la qualifica di Cinese, aveva un pigiama fatto a chimono.
C'è voluto tanto tempo a prendere la decisione di scansire le diapositive perchè è stato difficile scegliere uno scanner affidabile....adesso la qualità  e la velocità degli scanner è accettabile, se la diapositiva è ben conservata.  Questo lavoro ha fatto compagnìa a me ed a Danilo, durante questa strana estate, spesso  fredda e piovosa.
E' stato bello vedere come eravamo e quanti giorni di gioia abbiamo vissuto insieme, in famiglia.

Our yesterday is contained in many boxes of slides, which scanned correctly becomes increasingly challenging due to the progressive deterioration of the images.
It happens that the slides of the places are more deteriorated and luckily are more conserved those of the people.
We hope to show  to Alice and Beatrice, something of our yesterday.

La gioia di ritrovare le immagini di ieri nelle diapositive digitalizzate, facili da guardare nel computer.
The joy of finding pictures of yesterday in the slides digitized, easy to watch on my computer.

A "Cicciobello" Chinese. The faces of Cicciobello, apart from the color were all very similar, but that, because of a pijiama with the jacket- kimono, just deserved the  Chinese qualification .
It took a long time to make the decision to scan the slides because it was difficult to choose a scanner .... now the reliable quality and the speed of the scanner is acceptable, if the slide is well preserved. This task did spend several hours, during this strange summer, often cold and rainy.
E 'was great to see how we were and how many days of joy we lived together as a family.

CREATIVE THINKING / PENSIERI CREATIVI

Il mondo intorno a me, è una serie infinita di cose da guardare.... ed appena le guardo scatta una reazione...colore e stato d'animo, parole che si fanno strada nella mente, un caleidoscopio di attimi collegati alle immagini .

Fotografare mi aiuta ad organizzare queste sensazioni visuali che arrivano continuamente, trasformandole in un aiuto concreto alla mia pittura.
La composizione delle immagini è un momento entusiasmante di preparazione del mio soggetto e i criteri  della visualizzazione dell'immagine non sono diversi tra fotografia e pittura.
Facendo questa riflessione ho comperato diversi libri che parlano dell'argomento, per approfondire la composizione (che non è solo la sezione aurea o la regola dei terzi).

Uno dei libri più  interessanti sull'argomento è "La mente del  fotografo" di Michael Freeman.
Il libro è diviso in tre capitoli, INTENZIONE- STILE-PROCESSO
Queste tre parole chiave vengono esplorate da Michael Freeman attraverso la storia della pittura  e della fotografia. Per mia fortuna è tradotto in italiano !!!
Una frase di Helmut Newton introduce il volume:
" E' tutto automatico. Basta premere un pulsante. La fotocamera è la stessa per tutti...La differenza la fa questa...(indicando la propria testa)".

Concetto come soggetto 

Per i pittori non è così semplice, non basta un click...ma viene il momento che abbiamo davanti le stesse cose che hanno avuto davanti tutti i grandi pittori ....anche per noi in quel momento la differenza inizia da cosa abbiamo nella nostra testa.
Questa testa è unica per ognuno ed è quindi la vera garanzìa della nostra assoluta possibilità di essere/diventare  creativi ed unici.
Michael Freeman suggerisce un metodo per archiviare/studiare/memorizzare le fotografìe preferite che ritiene corrispondano al modo più diretto di fotografare per il fotografo... Ho iniziato a fare  la stessa  cosa con i miei acquerelli per scoprire che cosa ho realizzato in particolare nella composizione, per costruire su questo fondamento composizioni più complesse, che corrispondono al flusso dei miei pensieri, ora.

The world around me is an endless stream of things to look at .... and just  taking a look ,it creates reaction ... color and mood, words that make their way into the mind, a kaleidoscope of moments linked to images .

Taking pictures helps me to organize these visual sensations that flow continuously transforming these images into a real help to my painting.
The composition of the images is an exciting time of the preparation of my subject, and the criteria for displaying the image are not different between photograph and painting.
Doing this reflection I bought several books about the topic to deepen the composition (which is not only the golden section or the rule of thirds).

One of the most interesting books about image composition  is  "The photographer's mind", by Michael Freeman.
The book is divided into three chapters INTENT- STYLE-PROCESS
These three keywords are explored by Michael Freeman through the history of painting and photograph. Luckily for me, has been translated into Italian !!!
A sentence of Helmut Newton introduces the volume
"It 's all automatic. All I have to do is press the button. It's a camera that every amateur buys. [pause, points to his head] It's all in there"
The camera is the same for all ... The difference is in the  head.
For painters it is not so simple, is not just like to press a button... but there comes a time that we have before us the same things that have been in front of all the great painters .... even for us at that time the difference starts from what we have in the our head.

This head is unique to everyone and it is the true guarantee of our absolute ability to be / become creative and unique.
Michael Freeman suggests a method to store / study / memorize the favorite photographs believes that correspond to the most direct way for the photographer to take pictures ... I started to do the same thing with my watercolors to find out what I made in particular in the composition, to build on this foundation, more complex compositions, which correspond to the flow of my thoughts, now.
